Don’t Worry. Be Happy.

No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:37-39 (NLT)
In our heads we know this to be true. However we often struggle to live this out. Regularly we let little things ruin our day. Yet Paul makes it clear that while bad things can, and sometimes will, happen NOTHING can separate us from God. Nothing you do, anyone else does to you, or anything that happens to you can separate you from God.
Wherever your day takes you remember the truth the Gospel. If something goes south don’t let it ruin your day; stop, pray, and remember instead. Think about this verse. Put things back into perspective. God loves you and nothing can separate you from him or change that.

When young Margaret Wilson was tied to a stake to be sentenced to drowning during the infamous killing times in Scotland she quoted from Romans 8, nothing could separate her from the love of God. Her only crime was refusing an oath accepting the King was head of the Church. She was faithful to Christ the only King of the Church. Only 18 years of age, giving up everything but resting in the Word. Christ alone. I have visited her grave in Wigtown I have been to the spot where she was drowned. But nothing could separate her young dying faithful life from the love of God.
I have found that, often, when the “day goes south”, I need to stop, pray and ask that the Lord show me what He is trying to teach me in this situation. If I don’t stop to do this, I wind up flustered and the whole day is shot, along with my attitude and reactions to those around me. But, if we ask Him to show us the lesson, like when the disciples asked Jesus to explain the parable to them, then we most often will see that what we interpreted to be disappointment or anger producing actually was a blessing … I just needed to refocus away from myself and onto Him. Great post and powerful reminder of His presence with us always.
It’s in making God’s presence most precious that we find our peace that passes all understanding.

The high waves of the storms of life may seem daunting and may cause us to fear and sink in despair; but when we call out the Lord, He will quickly grab us by the hand and lift us up. This world may be menacing at times, but our God is far more intimidating than anything the world might throw at us. God has a hold of us and He will never let go, through the calm and through the storm.
